Skiing Mount Artos Mount Suphan Mount Ararat

Skiing at Mount Artos Mount Suphan Mount Ararat

This program will take us to the 3 highest mountains in eastern Anatolia, Turkey, for ski touring. We will first climb Mount Artos (3560 meters) and Mount Suphan (4050 meters), and finally Mount Ararat (5165 meters).

Mount Ararat (Armenian: Արարատ; Turkish: Ağrı Dağı) is the highest peak in Turkish Kurdistan, at 5,137 meters, located in the eastern part of the country, in the Anatolian region, very close to the border with Iran and Armenia. It is an inactive volcano whose summit is covered in perpetual snow.

The ascent doesn't present great technical demands, but it does require good physical preparation, making it ideal for those new to high-altitude climbing. For the Christian faith, Mount Ararat is the place where Noah's Ark came to rest after the Great Flood. Alleged remains of the Ark have been found on some of its slopes. At its base, several Kurdish villages offer glimpses into the traditional nomadic life of this culture.
